MY JOB
Under the Northeastern University course Topics in Graphic Design Inquiry – more specifically, Cause InForm: Design and Social Impact – I was responsible for independently developing a campaign from scratch that sparks social change. I thrived under the direction of Professor Margarita Barrios Ponce.

WHAT IS HI AI?
Line
In a world engulfed with the growth of technology, students in the humanities are fearing for their careers and their work. But what if AI could be something that they can control, something that's in their power?

‍Balancing left brain with right,
HI AI (Humanities Interventions in Artificial Intelligence) encourages humanities students at Northeastern to pursue careers in the ever-growing field of AI research.

‍In this campaign, I offer a brighter future after years of living in the shadows. No longer will we feel inferior to our robotic counterparts.
WHY TARGET NORTHEASTERN STUDENTS?
As a massive research institution, Northeastern takes pride in always being one step ahead with the latest technology. Do they provide the same pride towards students in the arts and humanities?

My campaign targets undergraduate students from Northeastern's College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH).

BAROQUE | Designed by Jason Walcott, 2003
This blackletter type is designed to represent the humanities in my campaign. Its regal character reflects the craft of written type. Throughout my campaign, I use this typeface's capital letters to highlight the attention to detail.
OWNERS | Designed by Jeremy Mickel, 2021
A modern sans serif to exemplify Generation Z's go-to attitude, this typeface is the backbone of my entire campaign. The geometry of this typeface highlights simplicity and authenticity.

BUSINESS CARDS

Business cards
Northeastern's culture relies heavily on its professional ecosystem, from its classic co-op program to career design services.

‍Designing a business card merges this value of professionalism with my campaign, sparking confidence and pride into Northeastern's College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH).
POSTER SERIES
Line
Experimenting with color and type, this series targets college students with its high-contrast system.

‍The rhetoric within this series inputs a sense of urgency by placing emphasis on "before the robots do it."

‍However, taking a closer look inspires viewers to "take over the world," invoking a sense of confidence and pride for students that need it.

TOTE BAG
Line
Tote bag
My campaign uses typography at its full potential to portray the power of storytelling and rhetoric. This tote bag uses type as form to fill the negative space at the bottom.

‍Using the striking phrase "robots are taking over the world" to first strike fear and attention, the true meaning of the design is revealed when one takes a closer look.

CLASSROOM MURAL
Line
For this piece, I designed a mural for the College of Social Science and Humanities at Northeastern University. Using the power of rhetoric through my design, I combined French philosopher René Descartes's principle, "I think, therefore I am" with Julius Caesar's popular phrase translated from "veni, vidi, vici."

‍Artificial intelligence is conquerable, and you are in control.

BUS STOP SIGN
Line
Bus stop sign mockup
This design utilizes the same type from the tote bag and reflects it unto Northeastern University's local bus stops.

‍A central hub to the outside world off campus, bus stops reflect our desire to expand our ideas and experiences outside our comfort zones.

‍Using visual hierarchy, I first placed emphasis on the fear-inducing "Robots are taking over the world," before inspiring readers to take action when they take a closer look.
IN SUMMARY
Line
HI AI shows our inner strength when it comes to connecting with our creation.

‍This campaign takes pride in the humanities, providing CSSH students the confidence they need to further explore artificial intelligence.

The time is now, and in order to truly make progress in our environment, the future must begin today.

HI AI Logo
Utilizing the A from Walcott's Baroque typeface, the logo adds an icon of an eye to not only spell "AI" but to also add a looming, 1984-esque sense of urgency, like one is being watched.

‍The two parts of the logo emulate the two sides of HI AI, the regal side of the humanities and the cleaner, more modern style of the eye.
